BUSINESSES and individuals have been thanked for donating hundreds of items of equipment to protect health care workers dealing with patients with suspected and confirmed coronavirus.

The thanks comes from Wilmslow Health Centre, which has been overwhelmed with the outpouring of generosity from the community in response to an appeal for Personal Protective Equipment.

A spokesman from the centre said: “It is essential that we protect our healthcare workers so they remain safe and fit to continue providing care.

“We have had hundreds of items from people’s own supplies, businesses and local industry.

“We are also very grateful for all the support from the CCG, local councillors, Tatton MP Esther McVey and Reverend Kirsty Thorpe from the United Reformed Church.”

The spokesman also thanked the team of volunteers providing help in redirecting traffic arriving at the centre and advising people collecting prescriptions at the pharmacy of the importance of social distancing while queuing.

The car park at the centre is closed to reduce health risks to a minimum and to allow space for people to queue while picking up prescriptions.

The team of 30 volunteers wear hi-vis jackets and face masks and redirect drivers to the nearby car park at the URC in Chapel Lane or car parks in the town centre.

Town councillor Hannan Sarwar is part of the volunteering team at the medical centre

One of the team is town councillor Hannan Sarwar, who said: “After putting a request out for volunteers I was overwhelmed to receive dozens of offers of support.

“It is through the generosity and selflessness of these volunteers that the health centre can continue to serve our community.

“I would also like to take this opportunity to thank local volunteer James Bunker for supporting the organisation of this campaign.”

Cllr Sarwar added: “I know it is difficult to stay at home, but we all must do our bit to help flatten the curve.

“I know that together, we the people of Wilmslow, will get through this together, and on behalf of all the residents I would like to thank all keyworkers who are working tirelessly to help save lives.”
