THE number of confirmed coronavirus cases has risen sharply in St Helens, as health leaders reinforced the campaign that urges people to “stay home and save lives”.

Latest figures show 184 people in St Helens had tested positive for COVID-19.

Cases have risen steadily since Thursday (April 2) when the figure stood at 112 confirmed cases.

Meanwhile, Knowsley now has 133 confirmed cases.

There are likely to be more people with the virus who are self-isolating at home or who have recovered without ever being tested.

As reported yesterday, official figures from NHS England show the total number of people who have died after testing positive for COVID-19 at St Helens and Knowsley NHS Trust stands at 18.

Health leaders in St Helens continued to reinforce the message this weekend that calls on people to follow the Government guidelines to stay home and save lives, repeatedly publishing a poster campaign on social media.

The Department of Health said the number of coronavirus-related hospital deaths stood at 4,934 patients as of 5pm on Saturday, up by 621 from 4,313 the day before.

As of 9am on Sunday, 47,806 people had tested positive for coronavirus across the UK, the Department of Health said.
