THERE was a real moment of history in Warrington this week.
Because Fiddler’s Ferry closed its doors for good on Monday having been operating for more than 50 years.
The coal fired power station in Cuerdley is being closed by owners due to the Government’s new laws on emissions.
So we are looking back to when the power station was built.
Malcolm Groarke sent us this brilliant pictures of the construction of the cooling towers in the late 1960s.
And while work at the plant may have stopped for now, they will remain on the skyline for a while longer.
Demolition of the site, due to start later this year, could take two years to complete.
