TRIBUTES have been paid to a popular Warrington Athletics Club member who has lost his battle with cancer.
Nick Jones, who lived in Grappenhall, passed away on Tuesday morning aged 45 after a brave fight against the illness.
He leaves behind wife Caroline, son Jordan and daughter Jasmine.
Caroline posted the following tribute to her husband on social media.
Today we lost our lovely Nick 💔An incredible athlete with a relentless determination to be the best that he could be. It’s been a tough year, but he fought like a warrior. An inspiration. Team Jones has lost our team leader, but I’m certain @Nj02run be forever with us. RIP hubby pic.twitter.com/XLa48K6try

Warrington Athletics Club followed up with a tribute of their own.
A truly inspirational athlete. It is an honour that Nick was a part of @WarringtonAC and represented the club. We will always be very proud of all his amazing achievements. Rest in peace Nick Jones https://t.co/5K7HuvzXM1

Jones ran for Great Britain on several occasions, competing in the World Half Marathon Championships three times in the early 2000s.
In the Warrington vest, Jones was a regular winner at masters events.
Even during his cancer treatment, Nick continued to run and even clocked a sub-20 minute Parkrun time as recently as January.

Our thoughts are with Caroline, Jordan, Jasmine and the rest of Nick's family at this desperately sad time.
