TOWN councillors will follow Government advice before making a decision on whether to postpone this year’s Folk and Boat Festival.

Chart-topping band Scouting For Girls are set to headline FAB’s 30th anniversary festival, which is due to take place from Friday, June 19, to Sunday, June 21.

A host of upcoming public events have been cancelled due to the outbreak of coronavirus COVID-19, with the Government advising against mass gatherings.

But with FAB still three months away, Middlewich Town Council will consider the latest advice it can closer to the festival.

Cllr Jonathan Parry said: “We are taking all precautions, but the advice is to take the Government’s lead on this.

Northwich Guardian:

“With FAB being in June it is a grey area. If it was next month it would be an obvious decision to postpone it but with it being so far off we have to play it by ear.

“We are constantly in consultation with all the acts, we are speaking to Public Health England as well, and we are following Government advice.”

Middlewich Town Council meetings are now set to be postponed for the foreseeable future due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Lisa Benskin, interim town clerk, has been given delegated powers to make non-essential decisions – with town councillors to be consulted by email.

Town council staff are working from home, while the Victoria Buildings and Civic Hall are to be closed, with the council due to contact residents who have had events booked in at the hall.

Decisions requiring a council vote were taken at Monday night’s meeting, where visiting residents were asked to wash their hands on entry and exit, and were sat one metre apart from each other.

Cllr Parry added: “That will be it for now. We are taking a lead on this because we feel it is the right thing to do for our community.”
