MINIS rugby league is up and running at Woolston Rovers.

The programme, for children aged two to five, will operate under Rovers' junior section and become a feeder for the cubs and also the girls academy.

These rugby league sessions will be run by Rugby Sprogs, who will work closely with Woolston Rovers to give children the confidence to play the game before moving up the structure.

Rovers junior chairman Darren Geritas said: “It is great for the club to have Rugby Sprogs on board and looking after our new minis section.

"Our main aim at Woolston is to get children playing rugby league and this will become part of our structure which enables children to take up the game at a very early age.”

Troy Brophy, who is the manager of Rugby Sprogs, added: “Personally it is great for me, being a past player and now a coach at the club, to help Woolston to continue to grow and for Rugby Sprogs it is also great to help the business grow and joining up with a great club like Woolston Rovers does this.

"I am really excited to get Rugby Sprogs in at Woolston Rovers and to get the kids down training and having fun.”

Sessions will take place every Tuesday at Monks Sports Club between 5pm and 6pm.

Fees are £25 per month, with children receiving coaching and a free Rugby Sprogs playing kit.
