Council thrilled with community response to Love Your Streets campaign

Launched in February last year, the council asked residents to join them in making the borough’s streets and neighbourhoods the cleanest, safest and greenest in the country.

This involved cleaning grot spots and eyesores in local communities.

And the way people have stepped up to the plate to help out has been much appreciated and made a real difference, according to deputy council leader, Cllr Karen Shore.

“Over the last 12 months I’ve been thrilled to see all the litter picks, clean ups and other volunteering activity that has taken place to support our campaign,” she said.

“We’ve had individuals doing weekly litter picks in their area, school children transforming entire alleyways, community groups coming together to make a difference in their neighbourhood and large scale projects to tackle fly-tipping and other issues.

“On the anniversary of the launch I’d like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has got involved with the campaign.

“With your help, we have made a real difference to neighbourhoods across west Cheshire.”

The campaign saw the recruitment of the dedicated area streets information and solutions team, who have worked with groups and communities to tackle environmental issues and organise events.

A rapid response team has also been responding to requests quickly and effectively, so existing officers are not called away from day-to-day operations.

Cllr Shore added: “The vast majority of us are responsible and respect our environment, but there are some people who mistreat it.

“This can damage its quality and impose a financial burden on us all.

“I hope the Love Your Streets campaign continues its success, particularly as the council is supporting Cheshire West Voluntary Action’s Year of Volunteering campaign throughout 2020.”
