A LOWER Peover man has been sent to prison for four weeks after assaulting a police constable and making a ‘homophobic comment’.

Sean McDaid, of Mill Lane, appeared at Stockport Magistrates Court on Monday, charged with assaulting PC Edward Hougham-Slade in Lower Peover on October 13 last year.

The 37-year-old, appearing via video link, pleaded guilty to the charge and was handed a four-week custodial sentence.

The chair magistrate indicated that the guilty plea was taken into account when sentencing, but also said that one week was added to McDaid’s assault sentence due to the homophobic slur.

McDaid was also ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £115.
