A NORTHWICH charity is looking for walkers keen to take on a tough challenge, make new friends and raise money for a deserving local cause.

The Dave Holman Challenge is an annual walk which aims to raise funds for Tiny Steps - a children’s charity run by Martin and Laura Clifton.

Now in its fifth year, the walk is held in memory of David Holman, a friend of the charity and cyclist from Northwich who was killed in a road accident in 2016, aged just 38.

This year’s challenge will see participants complete a 32-mile trek from the Art Deco Midland Hotel in Morecambe along the spectacular Lancashire Coastal Path to Blackpool Tower.

Walkers will be able to take advantage of stunning views of the Bowland Fells and the Lancashire coast, plus abundant wildlife on mud flats and salt marshes in the area.

There will also be a 24-mile option finishing at Fleetwood.

“I checked the route out recently and was hugely impressed with the scenery,” said challenge organiser Nick Yates.

“Most people from Cheshire automatically head up to the Lake District for a scenic walk, but the Lancashire Coastal Path really is a hidden gem.”

Coach transport will be provided to and from Northwich on the day and walkers must raise a minimum of £50 prior to the event in order to be eligible to take part.

The Dave Holman Challenge 2020 will take place on Saturday, June 13 and will start with a breakfast meet-and-greet in Morecambe.

Anyone interested in taking part should contact Nick Yates on 07584419540 or nick@sedgemont.com before Friday, March 20.

Fundraising pages can be set up via justgiving.com/tiny-steps.

Money will go towards Tiny Step’s aim of providing a sensory play area and social cafe for children and young people with additional needs in Northwich and Winsford.

The charity was set up when Martin and Laura’s daughter Connie was diagnosed with a rare form of epilepsy called West Syndrome.
