WILTSHIRE Council has scrapped Sunday parking charges in all its car parks to support local businesses and communities.

The decision affects all on-street pay-and-display bays throughout the county.
Sunday charges had previously been suspended for two years in all car parks and on-street pay-and-display bays.

Cllr Bridget Wayman, cabinet member for highways, transport and waste, said: “This represents a significant investment in our communities and local businesses.
“It will benefit shoppers and visitors who want to use our car parks and on-street pay and display bays for free. We hope lots of people will take advantage of this scheme.”
Cllr Wayman said the move would enable people to park for free on one day a week and to get out and explore the county.

She added: “Free parking on Sundays is just one of a range of schemes we operate. We work with town and parish councils to provide free parking for local events, and partner some local communities who fund their own arrangements, including first and second-hour free and redemption schemes.”
