CHILDREN at Oak View Academy have learnt how to be kind to themselves and others.

Pupils marked Children's Mental Health Week with with activities designed to help them 'find their brave' and took some time to consider other people's feelings, as well as their own activities including exercise classes, workshops, relaxation sessions and outdoor activities.

Children also wore clothes inside out to reflect the fact that people may feel distressed inside despite looking well on the outside.

Executive headteacher Fiona Whittaker said: "Supporting children's mental health is a top priority of ours so the week of activities was the ideal way to get them looking at how they react to challenging situations, appreciate the positives and recognise all lovely things about themselves and each other.

"We also looked at ways they can enjoy the outdoors through forest school sessions, which they all love whatever the weather."

The academy also joined with Winsford's other 12 schools to produce a film about the mental health and wellbeing of young people in the town, which was shown to Winsford High Street Primary.

Oak View Academy is part of North West Academies Trust (NWAT), which manages schools across Cheshire and Shropshire including Delamere Academy, near Northwich, which is ranked the highest performing primary in West Cheshire according to the latest performance tables.

Steve Docking, chief executive officer of NWAT, said: "The emotional wellbeing of our children is just as important as their physical health.

"We want every child to be the best possible version of themselves and health and happiness are essential to this.”
