Customers were left baffled when the Greggs on Newport Street failed to open for the second day in a row.

The store was shut on Sunday and Monday, with regular visitors heading to the Deansgate branch of the bakery chain instead.

Various rumours spread around the town centre about the closure, but The Bolton News can confirm that the store is just shut for maintenance.

A Greggs spokesperson, said: "The Greggs shop at 7 Newport Street, Bolton is currently closed for some essential maintenance works and will reopen on Sunday February 23.

"In the meantime, the Greggs shops nearby at Bolton Interchange and Market Place Shopping Centre remain open as usual."

The outlet is one of four Greggs in the town centre.
