CHILDREN from two Winsford primary schools are getting to know each other before they move to high school.

Darnhall Primary School invited year 6 pupils from neighbouring Over Hall Community Primary School to join them for a day of collaborative learning.

Both belong to Winsford Education Partnership schools.

The year 6 pupils shared a joint lesson about Samba.

Professional drummer and percussionist Brian Costello from Samba Bamba inspired the youngsters to explore rhythm in an interactive music session.

Samba Bamba is a percussion-based workshop which aims to introduce and raise awareness of music from all over the world and improve children's skills in many areas of the curriculum.

Children are encouraged to use their voice along with walking and clapping exercises before being introduced to Brazilian percussion instruments.

Interactive sessions gave children the chance to work together

Darnhall headteacher Sarah Tomlinson said: “The young people were eager to work together and had so much fun. They have already set another date to learn together. Working as a partnership of schools is so important and bringing the young people together strengthens and enhances learning opportunities for all."

Claire Edgeley, headteacher at Over Hall, added: “Our pupils were thrilled to take part in such an interactive workshop and thoroughly enjoyed themselves. As headteachers we want to be able to work together across the partnership of schools.”

The pupils will meet up again in March at Over Hall for another learning experience.
