THE family of a man who died in a road traffic collision on the M602 have paid tribute to him.

61-year-old Gary Nugent Bamping, of Little Hulton, died on Friday, January 17 after he crashed his blue BMW into a Highways England vehicle stopped on the hard shoulder of the M602 between Manchester and Salford.

The crash happened just before 11:50am and the motorway was closed in Eccles between junctions one and two for a number of hours.

Paying tribute to Mr Bamping, his family said: “Gary was a fabulous son, brother, a proud father and grandfather. He was very much a family man and an extremely good friend.

“He would help anyone at the drop of a hat, always there when you needed him. He touched many lives with his happy go lucky attitude and always wore a smile.

“He always loved to be fixing and making things turning his hand to anything. He touched many lives and will be sadly missed by all.”

Greater Manchester Police have appealed for witnesses who might have seen the BMW in the moments leading up to the crash.
