ALDI plans to build a bigger new store in Winsford - down the road from its existing site.

The award-winning discount food retailer has been selected by Cheshire West and Chester Council to purchase their site at the corner of the High Street (A54) and Dene Drive, currently used as a car park.

The existing Aldi store, further south on Dene Drive, is no longer fit for purpose, with more space required to improve customer experience and continue to deliver the high standards that their customers have come to expect.

The relocation and modernisation of the store will also support CWAC’s regeneration plans for Winsford town centre.

The proposals represent a significant economic investment into the local area, improving customers’ shopping experience whilst continuing to save local Aldi shoppers time and money.

The scheme will also see at least 10 additional local jobs created.

George Brown, regional property director for Aldi, said: “After being a part of the local community for almost 25 years, we are delighted to announce our continued long-term investment in Winsford.

“We have spent some time considering various options to modernise our Winsford store, and the new site at the corner of the High Street and Dene Drive site is considered the best option to bring Winsford a store that is up to our modern standards and will provide an improved customer experience.

“We want to hear from local people before we submit a planning application early this year, and encourage residents to visit the existing Dene Drive store to find out more.”

Cllr Richard Beacham, cabinet member for housing, regeneration and growth, said: “Aldi’s proposal to move to a larger building on the Dene Drive car park demonstrates a long term commitment to Winsford and forms part of the council’s masterplan for the town centre.

“This move will allow Aldi to expand onto a more prominent site, with a stronger connection to the rest of the town centre, and creating more footfall for the town.

"The council is continuing its work to attract new tenants to Winsford Cross, while retaining the existing tenants who are crucial to the future success of the town.”

Aldi will showcase the plans on information boards at the existing store in February 2019, with a planning application due to be submitted shortly afterwards.
