BURGLARS forced their way into an Indian restaurant and made off with stock and cash.

Police are appealing for information following the break-in at Fort Of India on High Street, Newton-le-Willows over the weekend.

Officers received a report on Saturday morning (January 18) of entry having been forced to the restaurant during the night.

It was reported that stock and cash had been taken from the premises.

It is believed that the break-in happened at some time between 11.30pm on Friday night (January 17) and 7.45am on Saturday.

CCTV, forensic and witness enquiries are ongoing and anyone with information is asked to come forward.

Inspector Jim Wilde said: “An investigation is underway to establish the full circumstances of this burglary and find those responsible. It is unacceptable to target someone’s livelihood in this way and we will continue to work closely with local businesses to prevent this kind of crime.

“If you witnessed or heard of any suspicious behaviour in the High Street area, or have any information, CCTV or dashcam footage, please let us know so we can take action.”
