TONIGHT'S meetings of Winsford council and finance committee have been postponed due to 'a risk of violent behaviour'.

Mayor Cllr Ailsa Gaskill-Jones decided to postpone both meetings until next Monday, January 27.

In a statement, a Winsford Town Council spokesman said: “The meetings of Winsford Town Council finance and full council have been postponed.

"This is following concerns regarding comments made on social media in relation to the meeting. The decision was made by the Winsford town mayor following advice from Cheshire Police.

"The advice from Cheshire Police was that the meeting should be postponed if there was any risk of violent behaviour until such a time as a full risk assessment could be completed.

"Based on the tone of social media in relation to the meeting, the behaviour of individuals at the recent extraordinary

general meeting and the tight timescales involved, the town mayor decided to postpone the meeting until 27th January 2020.

"This postponement will allow Winsford Town Council to work with Cheshire Police to complete a full risk assessment for the meeting.

"In doing so the Town Council will be better able to assure the safety and security of all those who wish to attend the meetings and to participate in Winsford’s local democracy.”
