TWO mums are organising a big outdoor event to showcase the talents of local people.

Winsford Community Festivals are staging a celebration from 12 noon to 10pm on Saturday, April 25 on the field at Verdin Exchange.

Single mum Emma Brown, 34, and Jay McGough, 35, who has four children and two step children, want to promote the various community groups and voluntary organisations in the town.

"We want to create something special and bring the community together," said Emma, chairman of Winsford Community Festivals. "Winsford is full of amazing people and there is so much going on. We want to give all these groups the chance to network and support each other.

"Brownies and Guide groups are not getting enough numbers. We want to help them to stay open.

"Many people in Winsford are out of work, get depressed and sit at home with nothing to do. We want to show them just how much is available for them to get involved in."

Various charities, schools and organisations have already pledged to take part and will be demonstrating their talents and skills and raising funds.

The theme of the event is mental health and bullying and funds will be raised for Mid Cheshire Mind and Mid Cheshire Foodbank.

"We want to raise awareness of bullying," said Emma, who is self employed and works in security. "Bullying is everywhere, in schools and the work place. We want to make people aware of the long term effects and mental health issues it can cause."

The mums held an inaugural event last year and enabled many groups to recruit members and volunteers.

Any clubs, groups, organisations or small businesses wishing to take part can email winsfordcommunityfestivals@gmail.com or call Emma Brown on 07488 259270.

The mums are also appealing for volunteers to help run the event and sponsorship.
