GIFTED Winsford musician Sam Lyon has released a powerful new song calling for urgent action on climate change.

Dangerously Changing warns of 'the gravest threat the world's ever known' as icecaps and glaciers are melting.

The song blasts world leaders for ignoring the peril and failing to take responsibility and commends eco activist schoolgirl Greta Thunburg for speaking out about the truth.

Written by Bob Goodwin, the forceful lyrics call for everyone to change bad habits and campaigns for a trillion trees to be planted.

Money raised from the single - released worldwide today - will help tackle the devastation caused by Australian bushfires and support the work of environmental charities in the UK.

Singer-songwriter Sam is passionate about the planet and created a new range of eco-friendly merchandise made from sustainable materials with zero plastic for her UK tour in June last year.

"It all sold out on the first night," said Sam, 24. "Hopefully this song will raise awareness and a lot of people will listen to it. Music is a subtle way of breaking down barriers."

The success of her green merchandise showed that with the right approach, audiences willingly embrace a more eco-friendly attitude and lifestyle.

Sam was approached by eco-activists Extinction Rebellion Cheshire (XR Cheshire) to perform a song that vividly expresses the major anxieties and emotions of the climate crisis.

"I have felt strongly about climate change since I was a child so combining both passions was a no brainer," she said. "All the profits raised in royalties from downloads and streaming in the southern hemisphere will go to Australia and money raised in the northern hemisphere to UK environmental charities."

Guitarist Bob Goodwin, from Sandbach, originally wrote the lyrics to the tune of Bob Dylan's The Times They Are A Changin.

Bob said:"That is the greatest protest song ever. We recorded it and it was all ready to go. I had made enquiries with the Performing Rights Society and out of the blue they phoned me."

Sony ATV and Dylan's US lawyers refused permission saying they never allow alternative lyrics on his song.

"I picked up my guitar and wrote a new tune," said Bob. "I felt that nobody in the song medium was putting anything hard hitting out there about climate change.

"Politicians must realise they are sitting in a moment of history. In years to come, they will be utterly condemned and despised if they don't do the right thing."

Sam is an unsigned artist who prides herself on being unsigned, unpublished and her own manager.

After performing for 10 years, she has developed her own unique niche brand.

"I just love it," said guitarist Sam, who became a full-time musician four years ago. "A lot of the time it doesn't feel like a job. All the knowledge I have gained I would never have experienced if somebody else had been doing things for me.

"I'm getting to know people along the way, learning how the industry works."
