TRAVELLERS have set up an illegal camp outside a Tesco Express store in Winsford.

Cheshire Police said they were called to reports of one caravan and one vehicle moving onto a car park outside the store on Delamere Street at 4.45pm yesterday, Wednesday.

It is understood the travellers had moved to the site from Verdin Exchange in the town centre.

Prior to that, families were camping on a car park outside Barton Stadium.

A Tesco spokesperson said: “We are aware of the caravan on the car park at our Winsford Delamere Express store and we are working with Cheshire Police to find a solution as soon as possible. We apologise for any inconvenience caused to customers.”

As the car park is understood to be on private land, the landowner is responsible for taking any legal action.
