MIKE Amesbury has called on the Government to take ‘action now’ to end the leasehold scandal.

The recently re-elected Weaver Vale MP made his views clear during the first debate on the issue in the House of Commons since December’s general election.

Communities secretary Robert Jenrick told the House that he was waiting for the findings of a series of reports, which the Government would then take into ‘careful consideration’.

But this does not go far enough for Mr Amesbury, who has been a staunch campaigner on the issue since first being elected in 2017.

He said: “The Secretary of State rightly refers to action, but when?

“That is the key question my constituents are asking in the Winnington part of Weaver Vale and Sandymoor.

“We have had consultation upon consultation - when will there be action?

“We need action now, not careful consideration.”

Speaking outside the Chamber, Mike added: “There may be a new government, but the problems are still the same.

“Thousands of my constituents are trapped in leasehold properties due to an absolute scandal that's been allowed to go on for too long.

“Some real progress had been made on this previously thanks to the work of MPs on all sides, but things have stalled and we cannot let it drop now.

“The government has said they will 'carefully consider' reforms, but that's not enough - we need action now.”
