MEMBERS of Friends of Goostrey Station have thanked Mike Jervis for his efforts as he steps down as group chairman.
Mike was treasurer when the volunteer group was founded in 2013, and took over as chairman following the sudden death of Cyril Caulkin in 2016.
Mike has decided to retire from his leadership role, and has been thanked for his guidance, skill and commitment.

Mike has led the team during the monthly working parties at the station, and each summer has been an enthusiastic helper at the FOGS stall on Rose Day.
His major achievement has been the successful negotiation of the refurbishment of the former ticket office and waiting room.
Craig Sidebotham, who succeeds Mike as chairman, said: “This required a great deal of time, effort and tenacity, but it is a fabulous result for our village.

“Goostrey station now has a building it can be proud of. We hope in the near future it can be used by the community.”
During Mike’s time as chairman FOGS received three awards from the Cheshire Best Kept Station competition, for Art, Diversity and Youth Challenge.
In addition the group was shortlisted in 2017 and 2018 in a national competition organised by the Association of Community Rail Partnerships (ACORP).

But in 2019, as a fitting climax to Mike’s time as leader, FOGS won the ACORP photo competition and scored enough points to receive a gold certificate in the It’s Your Station category.

To ensure passengers continue to enjoy using Goostrey station, working parties continue on the second Sunday of each month, starting at 10am.
