TRIBUTES have been paid to a former Cheshire Regiment soldier by his family.

Veteran Cyril Rogerson died, aged 92, on December 19.

Cyril was born in Cotebrook in 1927 and lived in Winsford all his life.

His niece Christine Rogerson said: "He lived in a wonderful community in Plover Avenue and was looked out for and visited by some of his wonderful, kind neighbours daily.

"He had a caring and loving family who also looked after and cared for him."

Cyril had one brother Jim who he always referred to as 'our Jim'.

At 13, he went to work as a farm labourer for four shillings a week.

He did his national service with the Cheshire Regiment, serving in Palestine, Kenya, Cairo and Alexandria.

Cyril married his late wife Edith, known as Edie, at St Chad's Church in June, 1953.

He worked for the water board for 47 years.

Christine added:"He loved gardening and played snooker until recently at Winsford Conservative Club in Ways Green. He was a life time member for 65 years."
