RESIDENTS looking for volunteering opportunities or work experience are invited to a Volunteer and Work Experience Fair to meet employers on the hunt for enthusiastic workers.

The fair takes place at Wyvern House, Winsford on Tuesday, January 21, from 10am-1pm, and is run by the council’s Work Zone team working in partnership with DWP.

The annual event puts employers and voluntary organisations in touch with people looking for voluntary work and has proven to be a rewarding experience for those involved in recent years.

Representatives from organisations such as Citizens Advice, St Luke’s Hospice, Age UK, Cheshire West Libraries, Motherwell and Healthwatch will be there.

Cllr Richard Beacham, cabinet member for housing, regeneration and growth, said: “This event is a great opportunity for people to meet employers and improve their job prospects.

“The event is also an opportunity to provide additional support for employers and most importantly it helps the customer on their journey to employment by offering important work and life skills and enhancing CVs.

Volunteering also provides fantastic opportunities to those who just want to give something back to their community.

“It attracted 100 people last year, when all providers gained at least one new volunteer or work experience placement. With many organisations taking part again this year, we expect similar numbers attending and some rewarding results for all those involved.”

Other employers and voluntary organisations wishing to take part are can call Stephen Smith on 01606 288910 or email Stephen.Smith@cheshirewestandchester.gov.uk and explain the types of volunteering opportunities or work experience they can offer.
