TRAVELLERS who set up an illegal camp at Winsford United Football Club have moved down the road to another car park at Verdin Exchange.

Two caravans had set up an unauthorised encampment on a public car park outside Barton Stadium on Wharton Road, Kingsway over Christmas.

Cheshire West and Chester Council, who own the land, took legal action to evict the family but they have now driven just three minutes away into the town centre.

A spokesman for Cheshire West and Chester Council said: "We visited Winsford United Football Club on Wharton Road during the Christmas period to speak with representatives from the football club and the family encamped there.

"The club had allowed the family to stay for the new year period and the Cheshire and Warrington Traveller team continued to monitor and visit the encampment.

"Our officer visited the site yesterday, January 6, to serve the group notice to leave by 5pm today, Tuesday, January 7.

"The council has since found out that the same group of travellers has now moved to the Verdin Exchange car park. An officer will be visiting the site later today, January 7, to conduct an initial assessment and welfare checks."
