It's Boxing Day - the mayhem of Christmas is over, presents have been unwrapped and trousers are probably feeling a little bit tighter this morning.

For those of us who are lucky enough not to be working today, here are our readers' suggestions of top places to go for a walk to blow away the cobwebs.

While we appreciate today may not be the best day for a walk, here are some ideas for the next few days when the weather is calmer!

1. Chesil Beach

The 18-mile long shingle beach stretching from West Bay to Portland is one of Dorset’s most iconic landmarks.

Why not take in a breath of fresh sea air today?

2. Golden Cap, West Dorset

Dorset Echo:

It's Dorset's best-known coastal cliff and the tallest in southern England - so what better way to clear your head on Boxing Day than a hike up to see these incredible views?

3. Portland's tout quarry sculpture park and nature reserve

An abandoned stone quarry was transformed into a stone sculpture park for visitors, and has become one of Portland's most popular attractions.

As well as being a haven for nature, it's got some amazing views. Check it out!

4. Whiteway Viewpoint car park to Flower's Barrow hill fort, Lulworth

Walk along the ridge from the viewpoint to find a hillfort and an abandoned village. There's some uphill walking, so tackle this one if you're feeling like a hike today!

5. Powerstock Common, near Toller Porcorum

This Dorset Wildlife Trust reserve is hidden away in the countryside and brimming with wildlife.

DWT's website says a wintry stroll at the site may bring sightings of scampering hare and flocks of wintering thrushes.

6. Pirates Cove, Weymouth

Found at the end of Pirates Lane in Wyke Regis, this secluded area is a great hidden spot for taking in the sea views on Boxing Day, and it's just around the corner from the popular Fleet Lagoon.

7. Old Harry Rocks, Studland

The land has been well trodden and the views well-known, but there's nothing like a walk to Old Harry Rocks in any weather.

With breathtaking views of the white cliffs and our beautiful coast, this one is a staple Dorset walk.

8. Bowleaze Cove, Weymouth

This sand and shingle beach near Preston is popular with families and is one of many beautiful coastal spots to visit in Weymouth.

Dive into a nearby cafe for a hot drink and enjoy a brisk walk at the sea this Boxing Day.
