GROT spots across Middlewich are being cleaned up thanks to an enthusiastic team of volunteers.

Middlewich Community Pride was revived by crusading Cllr David Latham to tidy up the town.

Russell Cooper and a group of six residents returned to the large island on St Michael's Way on Sunday and spent several hours clearing weeds.

It is the latest in a spate of clean-up operations carried out throughout the town.

The team discovered that a drain had been completely blocked by soil and weeds. They also cleaned the St Michael's Way sign so it can now be read clearly.

Volunteers want to thank motorists for their courtesy as they drove past them with care as they worked in the road.

"It's all about trying to get the community involved in making the town a nicer and better place to live," said Cllr Latham. "I am very proud of Middlewich. I was born and bred here.
