KNUTSFORD town councillor Katherine Fletcher has won a place in the House of Commons after winning the South Ribble constituency in Lancashire for the Conservatives.

Katherine scored an emphatic victory over her rival candidates on Thursday, taking almost 56 per cent of the vote with just over 30,000 votes, ahead of Labour on 18,829 votes.

The seat of South Ribble was created for the 1983 General Election, following the local government changes in the 1970s which saw the creation of the main constitutive borough of the same name, and has been in Conservative hands since 2010.
