MIKE Amesbury devoted his Weaver Vale election win for Labour to his late mum in a touching victory speech.
Mr Amesbury narrowly held onto his Weaver Vale seat against the odds, as Labour-held seats around the country fell to the Tories.
Despite an exit poll forecasting a 99 per cent chance of the Tories regaining Weaver Vale, Mr Amesbury was named winner with a majority of 562 – gaining 22,772 votes compared to Mr Wordsworth’s 22,210.
In his victory speech at the Frodsham Leisure Centre count, Mr Amesbury dedicated the hard-fought win to his late mum and thanked everyone who voted for him.
He said: “I believe in a compassionate, caring country. That is how I am going to serve in the community and how I am going to continue to serve in Parliament. It is a great honour to do that.
“A massive thanks to the people of Weaver Vale – those who voted for me and those who didn’t. I am here to represent all the people in Weaver Vale regardless of political affiliation.
