A MAN has been arrested after a suspicious device was found in a block of flats that were being used as a polling station.

Police said they arrested the 48-year-old following the incident at Glen Tower flats in Range Road, Motherwell.

It comes after residents were evacuated and a controlled explosion was carried out.

The device was later deemed 'non-viable'.

Chief Inspector Mark Leonard said: “Police in Motherwell have arrested a 48-year-old man in connection with a suspicious device found on the ground floor of Glen Tower flats, Motherwell around 1 am on Thursday, December 12. 

“Enquiries are ongoing.”
