CHILDREN have set up their very own mini police force.

Year 5 pupils at Willow Wood Primary School in Winsford have teamed up PCSOs Hannah Harrison and Clare Atkins from Cheshire Police to launch a new community project.

Wearing uniforms including high visibility vests and caps, they will be helping to improve their neighbourhood.

Teacher Adam Aspinall said: "They will be working alongside the police to learn about how we can make Winsford a better place to be.

"They worked collaboratively to create their motto 'United in improving our community'.

"The children are really looking forward to fulfilling their roles as mini police officers in the coming weeks.

Pupils have vowed to reduce littering and recycling because they feel it is important to reduce plastics being deposited in our oceans and they also want to improve the appearance of the town.

Children are concerned about speeding as they want to keep everyone safe on the roads.

Following an increase in anti-bullying and hate crimes, the youngsters want everyone in the community to feel safe and valued.

Parents heard about the new venture at a mini police assembly.

Inspector Andrew Smith and PC Panda presented pupils with their certificates and uniforms.
