A FAMILY has turned their Winsford home into a giant Christmas grotto with a 26ft Santa in memory of a courageous little girl.

Peter and Vicky Rooney are raising money for Alder Hey Children's Hospital where their niece 10-year-old Beci-Lee Hodge sadly died from a brain tumour.

The couple decorate their house on Beagle Point with thousands of twinkling lights to bring festive joy to local children.

Beci-Lee's mum Jenni said: "Every year my brother and his wife decorate the outside of their house with Christmas lights. They have lots of people coming to see them and the often ask if they are for a charity so they can donate.

"They have chosen Alder Hey in memory of my daughter Beci-Lee who sadly died aged 10.

"She received the very best care and treatment in the short time she was at Alder Hey. Doctors, nurses, technicians and the lovely people at Ronald McDonald House went above and beyond to try and help us in our time of need.

"We feel that this would be a lovely way of raising some money and support for this wonderful hospital."

Peter's family has rallied round to make this year's display even bigger and better than ever.

Peter and Vicky Rooney have transformed their Winsford home into a festive grotto to raise funds for Alder Hey Children's Hospital

Dad-of-four Peter said: "We only did it for the children last year but we got such a great response from people we thought we'd do it properly this time."

Life-sized snowmen guard Santa as a polar bear looks on.

The huge display is illuminated by more than 300 metres of rope lights.

"Luckily we've got a friend, Chris Tilly, who is a joiner and put all the lights up," said Peter. "He has no fear of heights and was able to climb up ladders like a monkey!

"Our family has all clubbed together and bought the lights and we will pay for all the electricity. Whatever anyone gives us will go straight to the charity. A 100 per cent of what we raise will be donated to Alder Hey."
