LOOKING for something to keep you or the family entertained this weekend? Well we've got you covered with five fun things going on around Bolton.

Bolton Winter Festival

FROM now until the beginning of January, Victoria Square will play host to a giant covered ice rink capable of holding 180 skaters.

The rink is part of the Bolton Winter Festival and tickets can be bought online at www.boltonwinterfestival.com, or in the former BHS store in the square.

After a skate, warm yourself in the tepee café bar and soak up the atmosphere as local bands take to the live music stage.

For general public skating the ice rink can hold up to 180 people per session but the Penguin Club (parent and child sessions) are limited to 120 people with a maximum of 2 children per adult.

All abilities are welcome and there are sessions to suit everyone with the number of skaters on the ice managed to ensure that everyone can enjoy themselves in a safe environment.

Library's birthday bash

CELEBRATE Harwood Library’s 50th birthday next week.

The library will have a history display and a ‘retro library’ with books published in 1969.

On Monday, December 9 there will be a tea party from 1.30-4.30pm, while a birthday party will take place on Friday 13 December from 1-3pm.Members and non-members of the library are welcome, and admission is free.

Treasure Island

ESCAPE the cold with a trip to Treasure Island held by the Octagon Theatre at the University of Bolton Stadium.

Join Jim Hawkins as he navigates the perils of the high seas in search of buried treasure.

The show will run from now until Saturday, December 28, and tickets are available online at: octagonbolton.co.uk

The show is suitable for children aged five and above.

Last chance to see pantomime

WITH pantomime season in full swing, don’t miss a chance to see Jack and the Beanstalk at Bolton Little Theatre between Thursday, December 12 and Sunday, December 15.

The show promises to be fun for all ages and boasts many entertaining characters including Dame Dotty Dimple, her brave and bright son Jack, his daft brother Simple Simon and their cow Buttermilk.

Matinee performances begin at 2pm, and evening shows start at 7pm. Tickets can be booked online at boltonlittletheatre.co.uk.

Breakfast with Santa

HAVE breakfast with Father Christmas at the café in Moss Bank Park on Saturday, December 14.

Children will receive a present from Santa, as well as a hot or cold breakfast. There will also be Christmas-themed craft activities.

The event will last from 9.15-11am. Adult tickets are £8 and tickets for children over 15 months cost £10. More information and tickets can be found online at eventbrite.co.uk.
