WITTON Albion midfielder Billy Smart believes Hyde United's artificial surface will suit his side when they face the Tigers this afternoon.

Albion can jump into the BetVictor Northern Premier Division play-off places with victory, should other results go their way.

Ewen Fields has a 4G playing surface but despite the hosts being more familiar with it, Smart feels it does put his side at a disadvantage.

Indeed, he feels the flat and true pitch may bring the best out of the Reds.

"I think it will suit us quite well," he said.

"We certainly feel we play better on good pitches and it’s easier to play good football on 4G pitches.

"They play on it week in, week out but we train on it regularly as well, so I don’t think it’s much of a benefit for them.

"Personally, I find the game a little bit different on 4G but I think we’ll be alright with it.

"It’s tight around the play-offs at the moment – there’s quite a few teams who will be fancying their chances.

"It’s important that we take points off the teams around us like Hyde. We certainly can’t be losing three points to them as that could send us quite far down the table."
