THE annual Matt Fiddes Artial Arts International Championships saw the Great Sankey branch of the club earn plenty of medals.

Charlie Lightfoot, 15, was a gold medallist in sparring while 14-year-old Nathan Heywood claimed a silver and a bronze.

Six-year-old Dante Waterworth earned a bronze medal while Ankita Raju, 10, also took bronze in the forms category.

Chief instructor Master Steve James says the return was just reward for four months of hard work in sessions at Hood Manor Community Centre.

"I am so proud of all the team," he said.

"They have all worked so hard and to bring back medals is a bonus and well deserved."

More than 600 competitors took part in the championships in Bath, with teams coming from as far away as Australia.
