FORENSICS officers are at a flat above an estate agents in the town centre today in connection with an investigation into a "horrific" rape.

Two men have been arrested after a woman was attacked as she walked through Bournemouth's Lower Gardens this week.

Officers investigating the incident, which happened early on Wednesday morning, had urged anyone who thinks they may know anything at all about the rape at all to get in touch.

Yesterday, police confirmed they've had a number of calls from members of the public with information. And this morning, detectives say two men have been arrested.

A spokesperson from Dorset Police said: "Following enquiries, a 28-year-old Bournemouth man has been arrested on suspicion of rape and causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

Bournemouth Echo:

"A 43-year-old man, also from Bournemouth, has been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender. They are both currently assisting detectives with their enquiries."

Emergency services were called to the gardens just after 6.10am. A woman in her 40s was injured during the attack. She was released from hospital today, but is continuing to be supported by specially-trained officers.

This afternoon, forensics officers are at a flat in Yelverton Road.

Police have confirmed the search is part of the ongoing investigation.
