A MEN’S social group in Hartford has received a shed load of new space thanks to a generous donation.

Hartford Men in Sheds was launched in 2009 to increase the wellbeing of men aged 50 and over and to reduce social isolation.

Based at Hartford Business Park on Chester Road, the scheme has 70 active members who take part in a variety of activities including woodworking and metalworking.

And thanks to a donation from home builder Redrow’s Hartford Community Fund, the group now have more space to grow in the community.

“Men in Sheds provides a space where men can come together to learn new skills, make new friends, get out of the house and share a good laugh,” said project co-ordinator Gus Glynn.

“The growth of the Hartford project meant we were short on safe storage space in the workshop for materials such as timber.

“With Redrow’s help we’ve been able to purchase a separate storage shed, freeing up space in the workshop for members to work safely.”

Since 2016, Redrow has gifted more than £100,000 to community projects across the North West via voluntary funds, including £20,000 to good causes in Hartford.

Caroline Thompson-Jones, the company’s north west area sales manager, added: “Feeling lonely can impact on our health and wellbeing, so it’s reassuring to see projects like Men in Sheds providing somewhere for Hartford residents to socialise.

“We fully appreciate that Men in Sheds needed extra storage space to accommodate their growing membership and were happy to be able to help.

“Redrow is committed to the wellbeing of its workforce and has signed up to the construction industry’s Building Mental Health Charter.

“Dozens of Redrow staff have been trained as Mental Health First Aiders to help support colleagues and sub-contractors and to reinforce that it’s okay not to be okay.

“We can really see the positive value in projects like Men in Sheds.”
