INFORMATION centres will be stationed across Wirral all next week as pat of a county-wide drive to protect adults from abuse and neglect.

The pop-ups will mark National Safeguarding Adults Week which gets underway on Monday, November 18.

They have been organised in conjunction with Merseyside Safeguarding Adults Board to  promote safeguarding awareness and information.

Graham Hodkinson, the council’s director for adult care and health, said: “With access to information and advice on safeguarding, members of the public can educate themselves on the issues and help to make our borough, a safe place for all.”

As part of the exercise trained staff at each venue will be on hand to answer questions in addition to offering advice and distributing relevant information.

Members of Merseyside Safeguarding Adults Board will also visit agencies across the region to gauge how adult safeguarding is being developed in different areas, to share and take note of best practice and to speak to individuals and staff who are affected.

The board’s primary responsibility is to ensure that adults who may be at risk are able to live fulfilling lives, free from abuse and neglect.

Board chairwoman Sue Redmond said: “By supporting the national awareness week we as a board are hopeful we can raise awareness of safeguarding in Merseyside communities, and the roles that everyone can play in preventing abuse and neglect.

“We are supporting staff across our constituent local authorities in highlighting these issues through public venues throughout the week.

“If by our collective efforts we are successful in better safeguarding even a small number of people across Merseyside, I feel it will have been worth it.”
