THIS week is the last chance to see the world-renowned installation Museum of the Moon at Birkenhead Town Hall.

Museum of the Moon first wowed Mersey crowds when it landed in Liverpool Cathedral last year but has now brought the spectacle to the assembly room of the Grade II listed Birkenhead Town Hall.

Part of Wirral's year as Borough of Culture for the Liverpool City Region, the breathtaking Museum of the Moon by Luke Jerram will be available to view until Friday, November 15.

The celestial installation is a fusion of lunar imagery from NASA, moonlight and surround sound composition created by BAFTA and Ivor Novello award-winning composer Dan Jones.

Visitors will be able to experience the moon in fine detail with each centimetre of the 7m internally lit sculpture representing 5km of the moon's surface.

The suspended moon will be accompanied by a programme of lunar-inspired events beneath it.

Cabinet member for culture and tourism, Cllr Christine Spriggs told the Globe: “Wirral’s year as Borough of Culture for Liverpool City Region has seen outstanding cultural events and projects create incredible memories for our residents and visitors, and we’re already looking forward to how we can build on this in 2020.

“Museum of the Moon will be a spectacular way to round off 2019, during the closing chapter of this year’s events.

"Our final events are influenced by Wirral’s big skies and will create awe-inspiring moments for visitors – particularly our children and young people.”

The installation will form a season of activities linked to the moon and stars called Constellations which aims to inspire audiences of all ages to look up and enjoy the skies above the borough.

There will be a ticketed performance from the 18th Century Concert Orchestra today (Wednesday, November 13) from 7pm and tickets can be purchased by clicking here.

Otherwise entrance to the Moon will be free from 11am to 6pm on Thursday, November 14 and Friday, November 15.
