CRASHES on the M6 northbound and southbound caused rush-hour traffic this morning, Thursday.

Two lanes were closed following a crash at junction 18 northbound at Middlewich and Holmes Chapel.

Traffic stretched back to junction 17 at Sandbach, with a two-lane closure near the incident and a one-lane closure back to junction 17.

A Highways England spokesman said: "There is a lane four closure between J17 Sandbach and J18 Holmes Chapel M6 for incident access to a lane three and four closure at J18 itself.

"This is due to an accident involving several vehicles."

Shortly before 8.30am, motorway police officers also took reports of another crash on the southbound M6, between junctions 19 for Knutsford and 18 for Middlewich and Holmes Chapel.

Traffic was temporarily stopped southbound between junction 19 and Kntusford services, with one car on its side.

The scene was cleared by around 9.10am, with all lanes now open again.
