COLOSSAL boilers were transported in a meticulously planned operation through the narrow winding streets of Middlewich to their new home at British Salt.
The two Lointek-manufacturers state-of-the-art boilers were designed and built in Bilbao in Spain as part of a major £7.2 million investment.
The giant load travelled more than 700 nautical miles over three days in a dedicated cargo ship to Ellesmere Port docks.

Weighing more than 90 tonnes each, the 12 metre long, 6.2 metre wide boilers took three hours to complete a 30 mile journey under police escort on Sunday along the A51, A54 and through the town centre to the manufacturing site on Cledford Lane.
The special delivery took a year to plan with military precision
The futuristic boilers will form the centrepiece of the new British Salt boiler plant facility that is currently under construction and scheduled to become operational in spring 2020.
They will replace their 50-year-old predecessors that are now approaching the end of their working life.

Not only will the new boilers present improved operational capabilities and reliability, they will also comply with the Industrial Emissions Directive and will utilise the best available technology, producing less than half the NOx emissions of the current boilers.
Their installation will help to future-proof the Middlewich site and ensure reduced carbon footprint and state of the art energy efficiency as the company celebrates its 50th anniversary.
