PLOT holders from Over Allotments Association have donated £1,000 to two Winsford charities.

Members have chosen to support St Luke's Hospice and Mid Cheshire Foodbank

Mike Allen, chairman of Over Allotments Association, said: "We’ve been raising funds for local charities since 2012, since when we’ve donated almost £5,500.

"This year we’ve given £500 to St. Luke’s and £500 to Foodbank. Although this money comes from the association’s funds, it is effectively money that Winsford residents have donated by supporting our events, such as our annual plant sale, open day, and Mikron Theatre visit. I would like to thank them for their support.”

Representatives from St Luke’s and the Foodbank visited the Moss Bank allotments site last week to receive cheques from the Allotments Association.

Vickie Baddeley, community partnerships fundraiser at St Luke’s Hospice, said: “We rely heavily on the support of our community and each year we are continually amazed by the generosity from some very special people at Over Allotments.

“With their help we will continue to provide the highest standards of love and care for those in need of our services. Our heartfelt thanks to all the members who work so hard to raise such an amazing amount for our hospice.”

Jo Rafferty, project co-ordinator and trustee at Mid-Cheshire Foodbank, said: “This is a really generous donation which will enable us to buy food items that we really need and at this time of year it will include some Christmas treats.”

The foodbank provided 6,569 emergency food supplies to people in crisis last year.
