CHESHIRE East Council has unveiled new equipment at a popular playground.

The playground at Sycamore Drive in Middlewich benefited from an investment secured by the council from local developers.

Following a review the site was selected as a priority in the area through partnership working with the council, Middlewich Town Council and community group Middlewich Vision.

The project was delivered by Ansa - Cheshire East Council’s arms-length environmental services company.

A new range of equipment has been installed including more accessible and inclusive play features with improved safety surfacing. Works have also been undertaken to improve the access into the playground.

Pupils aged five to 11, who are on the school council at Cledford Primary School, helped in the selection of the playground equipment to ensure the choices were popular.

Ansa parks officer Elaine Webster said: “The consultation with the young people was so rewarding and was very beneficial to the project.

“The class representatives took the project information and liaised with their fellow pupils and friends to see which scheme and equipment they preferred.

“Some pupils selected simply on their preferred look for the play area whereas others did a more scientific play - value approach. I hope they will reflect on the project in years to come with great satisfaction for the part they played.”

Middlewich community mayor David Roberts officially opened the playground on October 16 and was joined by the primary school pupils who had helped to select the equipment.

Councillor Brian Roberts, Cheshire East Council cabinet member with responsibility for green space, said: “Previously the playground, although well used and popular, was very tired looking.

“The local community now have a new range of equipment to enjoy. It is located on a pleasant estate and I hope to see residents enjoying the facility for years to come.”
