ROWING:

Crews from Northwich Rowing Club and Grange School competed in the Agecroft Head at Salford Quays on Saturday.

Northwich sent 23 crews ranging from juniors to masters to compete over the 3000m course held on Salford Quays.

Club captain Ellie Preece was delighted with the form shown so early in the season.

The club are now putting focus on its own Head which takes place on Sunday, November 10.

Winning Northwich crews at Agecroft:

Women: Junior 18-year-olds quad (Kiera Burke, Amber Sperring-Toy, Fran Campbell, Liv Dunnett); J18 double scull (Kiera Burke, Fran Campbell); J17 double scull (Amelia Roberts, Maisy Jardine); J17 single scull (Honor Campbell); J15 coxed quad scull (Cara Brook, Olivia Frost, Tilly Little, Grace Sperring-Toy, cox Izzy Garlick); W Masters C single scull (Mel Benson).

Men: J18 double scull (Patrick Brogan, Gwil Harris); J17 double scull (Aaron Bennion, Jack Millington); Masters D/E double scull (Andy Malins, Simon Crouchley).

Meanwhile, 27 Grange School crews competed, with 10coming home victorious.

In the single sculls, Bradley Strickland-Baker won the J18 event and Matthew Johnston won the J16 event.

Will Jessop also secured an impressive win in the J15 single.

Antonia Moulton was victorious in band one of the women’s J18 single, and Abbie Jessop won band two of the same event.

Paul Kenyon and Lewis Gray triumphed in the J16 double scull, and Ella Smith and Saskia Dry took the honours in the women’s open double.

Sophia Sinclair and Georgina Cassidy won the women’s J15 double scull in impressive style.

In the bigger boats, Jemima Hassall, Saskia Dry, Jess Cunningham, Olivia Harding and cox Ruby Moritz-Cammack came out on top in the J18 coxed four, and Ruby also steered the women’s junior eight of Emma Scarr-Hall, Megan Wall, Sophia Bate, Alice Phipps, Rebecca Walker, Alice Norman, Maddie Brougham and Mia Brown to victory.

TABLE TENNIS:

George Abbott’s Butchers secured a 10-0 win over Raptors to move to the top of the table in the Mid-Cheshire Table Tennis League.

Lostock Tigers climbed to second with a 7-3 victory over Wreckers, with player-of-the-match Miles Benjamin winning all three, including a five-set win over Terry Turner.

Gwilym Morgan chipped in with a notable three-straight win over Charlie Ostapski.

Sparks won 8-2 over Bears, with Ray Worthington and John Perry both securing maximums, while Paul Curley and Andy Edwards were both victorious for the Bears over veteran substitute, League Chairman, Alf Perry.

Hawks secured their first win of the season – a narrow 6-4 score line over Manweb, thanks largely to a maximum from John Jestin, including a solid win over Dave Nelson in four sets.

In Division Two, Lab Rats stayed ahead over Cobras with a 9-1 win over Romans, but Cobras narrowed the gap to only four points, with a game in hand, thanks to a 10-0 win over Sticklebacks.

In other results, Vikings battled to victory over Wolves, 6-4, with John Roberts winning all his matches and partnering Andrew Ingleby to a doubles success.

Kinetics and Snakes enjoyed a hard-fought 5-5 draw, with Martin Selby the lynchpin for Kinetics with three wins and a share of the doubles triumph with Warren Atkinson.
