Justin Holbrook's team lost only three league games throughout the whole season, finishing a record 16 points clear at the top of the Super League table, and they were unbeaten at home all year.

With their only defeats taking place in London and Perpignan, Saints went unbeaten in the north of England throughout 2019.

Saturday's Grand Final victory saw Saints claim a seventh Super League crown and the club's 14th championship in total.

Offering his congratulations, St Helens Council leader David Baines said: “What a year for Saints.

"Topping the league by a record-breaking points margin, and then winning the Grand Final on Saturday to become champions and confirm our status as the best rugby league team in the country."

Cllr Baines also offered his best wishes to outgoing Saints coach Justin Holbrook who heads back to Australia to take charge of Gold Coast Titans in 2020.

"As fans will know, the Grand Final was Justin Holbrook's last game in charge of Saints, and I’d like to thank Justin for a memorable two years. He's a class act and I'm delighted for him that he was able to sign off with a winner's ring and a title under his belt. On behalf of St Helens Council I would like to wish him all the very best for the future.

"We’re so lucky to have a world class sports team in our borough, and the entire club and the way they represent our community is something we can all be proud of as Sintelliners.”
