LYMM started brightly and put in an enthusiastic performance on their way to a 22-12 win over Rossendale in the North Premier League fixture.

Two penalties from Cormac Nolan gave them a 6-0 lead before Rossendale replied with a Nick Flynn try against the run of play.

Lymm’s response was swift with Gavin Wood driving over for a try from a rolling maul.

Nolan’s excellent touchline conversion, followed by a penalty put the hosts in the driving seat at 16-7.

But they had to show good defensive resolve to keep it that way at the interval.

Lymm again started the half in lively fashion and another Nolan penalty pushed the scoreline up to 19-7.

With Scott Redfern leading Lymm’s kick chase, Rossendale were never able to settle into any kind of attacking pattern and they kept in the right end of the park.

And with the visitors still posing a threat, a further Nolan penalty gave a clear 22-7 lead.

However, Lymm took their eye off the ball allowing Flynn to grab his second.

But Lymm’s defence was resolute and they kept Dale at bay to deny them a bonus point.

Lymm Director of Rugby and Head Coach Adam Fletcher was pleased with this result after a mixed start to the season in this tough league.

He said: “I am really pleased with our first half performance. We played the conditions well and played good territory rugby.

“Our enthusiasm in defence, especially kick chase put Rossendale under pressure and turned it into points.

“The last 20 minutes we lost our way a little and allowed Dale back into the game.

“I am really happy with the form of Joe Senior and glad we finally got our summer recruits on the pitch.

“Both Nathan and Ste looked perfectly at home.”

On Saturday, Lymm are at home to Sandal.

EAGLE:

Eagle maintained their unbeaten run with a 38-16 win over Liverpool St Helens.

LSH took a 10-0 lead but Chris Bates’ score from a penalty got Eagle in the game.

Two penalties meant they trailed 16-7 at the half time.

Second half tries from Dave Heathwood, Danny Cahill, two, and Ellis McCarthy meant they finished strongly.

Eagle are at home to West Park on Saturday, 3pm.

WARRINGTON:
