A WOMAN has admitted a spate of purse thefts across Warrington, Widnes and St Helens.
Police arrested a 48-year-old woman in the St Helens area shortly before 9am, on Saturday, October 5, in connection with the month-long crimewave.
Sharon Rooney, from Haydock, has since been charged with nine counts of theft and 29 charges of fraud.
It was alleged that she stole purses from women aged up to 90, before using debits cards found within to carry out a number of transactions.
Rooney appeared at Warrington Magistrates Court on Monday, October 7, where she admitted these offences – which occurred between Tuesday, August 28, and Friday, September 27.
She is now due to be sentenced at Liverpool Crown Court next month, and has been released on conditional bail until that date.
