A KFC fastfood drive-thru restaurant, Starbucks Coffee drive-thru and 46 new homes are set to transform a derelict riverside site in Winsford.

Plans for a mixed use development including 46 properties are being proposed on the former Greedy Pig pub site on New Road.

Lane End Developments has submitted plans to construct two drive-thrus, 10 two-storey houses and 36 apartments to Chester West and Chester Council.

The company believes building affordable homes on a mixed use development will 'help to tackle inequality' and make Winsford 'a place where everyone can thrive'.

The site is a key area within the Winsford Neighbourhood Plan near the River Weaver and town centre.

KFC will create 40 new jobs and Starbucks will recruit 20 positions. It is expected the employment will include 24 full-time posts and 36 part-time.

Developers say the residential and commercial mixed scheme was welcomed by the planning authority at an informal meeting last September.

In a report submitted with the plans, Lane End Development said: "Locating new development close to the town centre has the potential to support shops and other facilities by increasing the number of people living nearby to link easily to the town centre.

"Affordable housing plays a key role in the regeneration of the area to encourage young families to move to Winsford.

Lane End Developments recognise the demand for good quality purpose built new build affordable dwellings in the local vicinity."

It is felt that creating architecturally interesting houses and apartments on the edge of the river and A54 will improve the appearance of the area which is currently overgrown and blocks views of the River Weaver.

Two different types of red bricks have been chosen for the residential properties and contemporary large UPVC windows will maximise lighting.

The two food outlets are set to open seven days a week and on bank holidays from 7am to 11pm.

Both drive-thrus will be single storey developments.

The site has been empty since the pub was demolished in 2013.
