AN ABERGELE woman has started walking 50 miles a week to raise funds for a Llandudno hospice.

Newlywed Sally Jones has been lacing up her walking boots throughout challenging herself to complete 50 miles a week in aid of St David’s Hospice.

Aiming to total 200 miles by the end of the 30 days, Sally has been walking in memory of loved ones, Elaine Jones and Pam Morris who sadly passed away this summer after being diagnosed with cancer.

Sally explained the reason behind her fundraising idea, she said: “Peter and I got married in August. We had a low key wedding with very little money spent. We didn't want our friends and family to spend lots of money on outfits, travel, hair, nights away, drinks and wedding presents, but instead wanted them to consider donating a few pounds to the hospice instead.

“I enjoy walking, I don't really have the time or incentive for gyms or a workout, walking makes me feel healthier and is a great natural mood lifter. To measure my miles I have fitness watch which logs my steps on an app at the end of each day. Peter is very supportive and so far I’ve walked 95 miles."

Sally added: “We have both been through heartache and loss in the last couple of months. Peter sadly and suddenly lost his Mum, Elaine in June to cancer and I lost my wonderful second mum, Pam, in July after years of bravely battling several cancers. Pam spent about a month at the hospice in her last few months and the staff were fantastic. Nothing was too much for them.

“St David's Hospice is wonderful, a place where individuals and families get the help, support and care in the last weeks, days and hours of life and is a charity close to my heart.”
