STUDENTS at Middlewich High School have made a stand against climate change.

Pupils came together to show their support on Friday to raise awareness about climate concerns for future generations, by creating a formation photo of a tree.

Student leader Ewan Spice said: “It’s important for the people who will inherit the earth to look after it and sustain it. People need to know that it is an imminent threat and there isn’t much time until it is irreversible – we need to act now!”

As part of the initiative, the school will be removing single use water bottles from sale in the canteen and replacing all single use plastic cutlery with wooden cutlery.

All year 7 pupils will be presented with a reusable water bottle to encourage them to continue to be climate-change aware as they move through the school.

It is predicted that if all students move to reusable water bottles, it will save 10,000 disposable bottles per school year.

Pupils and teachers have pledged to turn off lights and other equipment and students are being encouraged to walk or cycle to school where possible.

Small acts collectively, they believe, will make a huge difference to the climate.
